Kathy is an Associate Professor in Economics and Finance in the School of Business; a co-lead with the Urban Transformations Research Centre; health economist with the Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Translational Research Unit (DOMTRU) and the Translational Health Research Institute at Western Sydney University. She is also a senior investigator with the Centre for Infectious Disease and Microbiology – Public Health.
Kathy’s current research areas are in studies measuring the economic costs of major incidents and/or diseases using response agencies and health systems administrative data sets at larger population levels. This includes measuring the impacts of residential fires, food borne diseases, diabetes, eating disorders, and respiratory viruses. In addition, she is an investigator on the Closed-loop Insulin delivery by glucose Responsive CompUter algorithms in Type 1 diabetes pregnancies (CIRCUIT); the Pasifika Preventing Diabetes Programme; the APHLID-M project: Apps and Peer support for a Health future and Living Well with Diabetes Project; Wandi Nerida eating disorder evaluation and My Care Partners program.
Kathy has an active research background in aspects of health economics, economic evaluation studies and community care. Kathy’s knowledge and experience makes her appointment as a Research Theme Champion in Education and Work an exciting one for Western.
