About the Centre

The Centre for Research in Mathematics and Data Science (CRMDS) is the focus for high quality research in the mathematical and data sciences at Western Sydney University. Our research in Applied Mathematics was rated well above world standard in the 2015 Excellence for Research in Australia exercise, and above world standard across the Mathematical Sciences.

Research in CRMDS spans a continuum from "blue-sky" theoretical work to applications, and covering a spectrum of mathematical fields including algebra, control theory, and data sciences such as computational statistics and machine learning. One of our key strengths is that this spread of disciplines really is a continuum, without artificial boundaries between theory and application across the range of research produced by our members.

CRMDS research includes a focus on engagement with industry, both through collaborative research and consultancy. We have a specialist Consulting Unit that provides a service to Western Sydney University staff and students, as well as to external industry partners.
