To keep our community safe in response to COVID-19, the University is moving all teaching and learning online, where possible.
Our face-to-face support services – including the Library, IT, Student Central and Wellbeing Services – are now available online and by phone.
Here’s how to access services and support remotely:
Student Assistance Fund
We understand that this may a tough time financially for students.
The University has established a Student Assistance Fund to assist those who are facing serious financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund can assist students with their basic living expenses, through grocery vouchers and modest financial support. We can also provide loan laptops if you don’t have a suitable device for your studies.

If you have suddenly lost your job, the University can also provide employment help. We can help you with identifying transferrable skill, upskill you through online resources and training, and proactively matching you to vacancies in other industries that suit your skill sets.

The Library has a large collection of online resources available anytime, including e-books, journals, subject guides, tutorials, and interactive apps, such as Visible body and learning modules. Download study tools and resources from the Study Smart website. Use MyLibrary to renew items and view your current loans.
Access Study Smart Online 24/7 through vUWS to upload your assignment for feedback. Book a live Study Smart Zoom session for expert advice on academic writing and assignment questions, or Zoom with a Librarian for referencing and citation assistance. Available times and dates vary – see website for details.
For Library queries, contact the Online Librarian via chat or email between 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
Please note: Libraries are open between 10am to 2pm, Monday to Friday, to provide students with a space to study, access computers or the Wi-Fi network. Your current Western ID card is required to swipe/tap access to enter all libraries. Physical distancing measures will remain in place. During open hours, a live Digital Service Desk is available to speak to or video chat with Library staff working remotely.
