Abstract

Having appropriate construction consultants for construction projects is an important factor in achieving project success. This requires ensuring that construction clients have the capability to conduct an effective selection process. However, there is inadequate research on the factors of construction consultant selection, including the capability of construction clients in selecting consultants. Therefore, this research aims to develop a capability maturity model and an assessment tool for evaluating the capability of construction clients to select construction consultants. The developed maturity model helps to describe current capabilities and performance improvement options, reveals improvement strategies, and provides an ideal approach to measure the success of a construction client's process. In terms of contribution to knowledge, the research will develop a new theoretical model for identifying maturity levels and characteristics of consultant selection for construction organisations, a new maturity model for consultant selection in construction organisations, and a new assessment tool to measure the maturity level of consultant selection for construction organisations. Moreover, this research can be used as a reference for future studies on the selection of other project participants such as contractors and suppliers, and its application in other industries.
