Indigenous Scholar Peter McKenzie from the Centre for Educational Research, along with Professor Michael Atherton from the College of Arts Deans Unit and Professor Rhonda Craven from the Centre for Educational Research, is critically analysing the contributions made to culture by Aboriginal musicians, through a three year ARC Discovery Indigenous Researchers Development Grant.

Associate Professor Virginia Schmied from the School of Nursing, with Associate Professor Jennifer Fenwick from Curtin University of Technology, Dr Athena Sheehan from Sydney Adventist Hospital, Anne Saxton from John Hunter Hospital, and Lyn Passant from Campbelltown Hospital, are exploring midwives' interactions with new mothers who are thinking of breastfeeding, through an Australian Research Council Linkage project.

Dr Connie So from MARCS Auditory Laboratories is exploring how native language affects people's perception of unfamiliar tones in foreign languages through a three-year ARC Discovery Project. The study will address how some properties of one’s mothertongue (e.g. word (lexical) tone, intonation, melody and rhythm, also known as prosody) affect our perception of tones in other languages.
