Staff Snapshot: Amanda Elliott

Amanda ElliottAmanda Elliott is the Research Data Officer from the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development).

Amanda is a new member of the ARMS NSW Chapter Committee and aims to represent the University in Australasian research management and provide opportunities for the University's research community to be informed of and involved in any upcoming professional development events.

When did you start working at Western and what was your first role?
I started in February 2013, providing data and systems support for the Office of Research Services.

Describe your current role:
My role entails everything research data including (but not limited to) Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA), Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC), the Researcher Portal and activity reporting, publication and citation analysis, and I am the primary administrator for the University's subscription to Research Professional for funding opportunities.

What's the best thing about your job?
Being able to interact with academics and students across the whole university – we produce some incredible research outputs and when I audit these publications for the HERDC submission each year, I always come across some very intriguing material.

What do you love most about working at Western?
Being a multi-campus institution brings together so many different demographics. It's enlightening to be able to take on board those perspectives, whether it is in a specific personal success story or in a Yammer post about something happening over the other side of the University. Plus it's always nice to be able to travel to another campus for a change of scenery.

What are you going to be working on in the next 12 months?
Having attained the title Accredited Research Manager (Foundation) through the Australasian Research Management Society (ARMS) earlier this year, I hope to be able to extend my research management duties beyond data reporting, but until then there will always be reports and datasets required across the University!
