At the recent Universities Australia DVCR meeting, several issues were raised that will affect researchers and institutions; these include:

Defence Trade Controls: There has been significant progress on how these controls apply to university researchers due to negotiations with DECO. Modifications to the ACT are under consideration. UA has been closely involved in these actions, see here (opens in a new window). There will be a further public consultation mid-year. For further details see the DECO website (opens in a new window).

A Conflict of Interest Supplement to the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research is in draft form and will be sent out for consultation soon.

The UA secretariat and Committee executive will engage with the NHMRC and the ARC on the expected review of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research. This will be an ongoing review - chapter by chapter.

The UA secretariat will organise a meeting between the Department of Education and the Committee executive to discuss the possible review of the Research Training Scheme.

NCRIS - It is still not clear what will happen to NCRIS/EIF/CRIS funded research infrastructure when the funding ceases during 2015. While this is under active consideration - it does fall between the two departments, as pointed out in my post on Federal Government Structure.

The ARC announced the reference dates for the 2015 ERA.
