AroundUWS – My Favourite Place competition winner

Judy Holman

AroundUWS is pleased to announce the winner of the “My Favourite Place” competition, Judy Holman, whose favourite place is by the lake at Werrington North:

I love watching its beauty change with the seasons.
In winter, the icy mist rises eerily across the water. You expect a wooden craft to glide past, containing someone from a bygone age, then vanish into the fog.
Autumn sees great activity, the water fowl building nest, and claiming territory.
In early spring, ducks parade their newborn chicks, taking them for swimming lessons.
In summer, the water is so still trees are mirrored in the glassy surface, only to be broken by a waterbird taking off, scudding across the outline, sending it into a hazy oblivion.
My favourite place...

We received fantastic entries from all campuses. Irene Pridham’s favourite place is the sunflower field at Hawkesbury campus:

My favourite place on campus is the sunflower plantation at Hawkesbury – S precinct, along Orchard Road ... I have often brought the kids here before childcare (they go to childcare on campus) to have a walk around or picnic breakfast.  It is such a beautiful way to start the day.

On Bankstown campus, Melissa Smith enjoys the views the park benches by the outdoor chessboard:

My favourite place at UWS is on the Bankstown campus, where I am based. The park benches by the outdoor chess board are a lovely place to sit and eat lunch, there is a great view of the lovely Asian style gardens, you can see what’s happening on the oval and it’s close to my favourite coffee spot- the Bakehouse in building 20. If the weather is nice, it’s the best place to catch some rays and watch the people go by.

Thank you to all staff who entered the competition. Keep looking out for more competitions next year in AroundUWS.
