Werrington walking club
A group of enthusiastic Penrith staff have taken their health into their own hands, initiating a weekly lunchtime walking group on campus.
Every Wednesday at 12.30pm, the group meets outside Frogmore House on the Werrington North campus to take a 45 minute break from their work day, while getting some fresh air and exercise.
Walking a different mapped route each week, the trekkers set off to explore the vast Werrington campus grounds (North and South), as well as some of the residential areas nearby.
Michael Smith from Records & Archive Management Services (pictured right) is one of the group ‘regulars’.
“It’s nice to get outside on your lunch break for some fresh air and sunshine. Walking is a very effective form of exercise, and the group is a fun and convenient way to keep fit,” says Michael.
“I am currently in training for a 100km charity walk in August to raise money for Oxfam Australia. My team members and I have 48 hours to complete the 100km trek, so the weekly walk is great practice for me!”
Another ‘regular’ is Dearne Richards from the Office of Organisational Development (pictured centre), who says that the group provides a new way to network with fellow staff.
“The walking group is a great way to meet new people and interact with colleagues across the campus,” Dearne says.
“I look forward to seeing some new faces as our group continues to grow.”
