Staff snapshot - Kelly Whitney
Working within Careers & Cooperative Education, Kelly Whitney is currently coordinating the Jobs on Campus program.
When did you start working at UWS and what was your first role?
I started working at UWS in 2006 as a communications intern in the then Cooperative Programs unit. I was in my second year of a Communications degree in Public Relations at UWS and wanted to gain some practical experience before I graduated.
Working as an intern ignited a passion for helping students and I was fortunate enough to gain ongoing employment in the unit, and pursue postgraduate study in the area of Career Education. I’m hooked!
Describe your current job/role:
I am currently employed as the Jobs on Campus Coordinator. Jobs on Campus is a University-wide initiative to increase student participation in paid, on-campus employment and assist hiring units with recruiting students for short-term roles.
I work with UWS hiring units to promote opportunities to students and help with short-listing and scheduling interviews. I also provide job-seeking support services to students and assist them to successfully transition into the workplace.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The‘feel good’ factor! I know first-hand the benefits a workplace experience at UWS can bring a student and how it can help to shape their career path. I also get to work with wonderful people across all areas of the University.
What do you love most about working at UWS?
I genuinely feel a sense of community at UWS. Staff are dedicated and work to achieve a common goal. It is a great place to work.
What are you going to be working on in the next 12 months?
Further developing the Jobs on Campus program.
