Staff have their say

MyVoice Results

UWS staff embraced the inaugural MyVoice Staff Engagement Survey, with 83% of staff taking the opportunity to have their say.

The summary results(opens in a new window)are now available, providing valuable feedback on the University’s strengths and areas where we can improve.

“The response rate has been excellent, especially given this is our first MyVoice survey,” says Ann Tout, Executive Director, People and Culture.

“The willingness of staff to provide candid feedback on their experience of what is going well and what needs to improve is a great testament to our staff's commitment to the University.”

Staff identified some of UWS’ key strengths as the UWS mission and values, the quality of our campus facilities, and collegial teamwork.

Organisational commitment was also strong, with 85% of staff indicating that they are willing to go the extra mile for UWS.

A number of areas for improvement also emerged from staff feedback. Key themes were the need for better cross unit cooperation across UWS, communication and information flow from management to staff, involvement in key decisions affecting staff, more visibility of senior management and improvements in how we select the right people for the right jobs.

The University is committed to acting on this feedback and making improvements with ongoing involvement from staff.

Associate Professor Andrew Francis, ARC Future Fellow in the School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematics, feels that the survey is a positive step forward for UWS.

“It is good to see that the University is asking staff what we think,” says Andrew.

“Now that staff feedback data is on record in an official capacity, it makes it easier for UWS to respond constructively. The survey is a great idea, and I hope it becomes an ongoing, formal process.”

Improvements will be implemented at the UWS and School/Divisional work unit levels. Over the next two months, staff will be invited to presentations on the MyVoice Survey Results, so keep an eye out for more information coming soon.
