60 seconds with… Jennifer Flood
Jennifer is currently on secondment to the Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment and Engagement (OATSIEE) as the Project Officer. Her substantive role is with the Badanami Centre for Indigenous Education on Campbelltown campus as the Indigenous Student Services Officer.
Jennifer is the first Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander to graduate from the inaugural 2011 UWS Inspire Leadership Program.
How long have you worked at UWS and what’s the best thing about working here?
I worked for UWS for 5 years as a casual whilst studying and have been permanent since 2007. The best things about working at UWS for me are flexibility and opportunities for career development.
Which campus are you based on?
I am on the Werrington North campus.
What is your favourite place on one of the UWS campuses and why?
My favourite place would be sitting by the lake on Campbelltown campus watching the ducks and just taking a time out to reflect and relax.
When you’re not at work, what will we find you doing?
Being with my family and doting on my new granddaughter.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a school teacher.
What was your first job?
Checkout operator at Flemmings, Punchbowl.
What has been your greatest success?
Besides my children, I would have to say commencing university in 2004 and completing my Bachelors degree in 2007.
If you could go to just one country in the world for a vacation, which country would it be and why?
Canada is my dream destination. I have had a pen pal in Toronto for the past 15 years and it would be lovely to meet her and give her a big hug.
What is your favourite book, movie and/or album?
St Elmos Fire – it just takes me back to those times when everything was “out of control”.
If you could invite anyone to dinner who would it be and why?
Judith Lucy, for the reason that I love a good laugh.
