Yan Zhang is Professor of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Leader of the Artificial Intelligence Research Group (AIRG) at Western Sydney University. Professor Zhang is also a landscape photographer. Science and Art play significant roles in Zhang’s life.  

The Australia-China Institute for Arts and Culture are currently exhibiting Zhang’s photography Chasing the Mountain Light (opens in a new window).The exhibition displays 13 mountain landscape images that Zhang has captured in recent years. These photographs illustrate the pure beauty of mountains: from the Great Wall to Yosemite, Patagonia and to the Southern Alps.

In the workshop, Zhang will share his stories about being a Professor of AI as well as a landscape photographer. He will reflect on his extensive and sometimes extreme mountaineering activities. His art captures these most exhilarating yet rarely seen landscapes.
