Who can attend an Academic Literacy Workshop?

Students enrolled in a Western Sydney University study program can attend. You'll need to make sure you've activated your WesternAccount before you can register. Students enrolled in 'The College' will cover the required skills in their College subjects, and so these workshops are not open to College students.

Is there a fee for the Academic Literacy Workshops?

All Academic Literacy Workshops are free for Western Sydney University students.

Can I cancel once I've registered for an Academic Literacy Workshop?

Yes you can. To cancel or change your workshop please send an email to literacy@westernsydney.edu.au as soon as possible. Failing to cancel is unfair to other students who may be on the waiting list.

Can I attend an Academic Literacy Workshop on a campus that is not my home campus?

Yes you can attend a workshop on any campus.

There are many advantages in attending a face to face workshop located on one of the University campuses. Attending a face to face workshop gives you more opportunity to ask questions and to receive feedback on your writing.

Can I complete the Academic Literacy Workshop online?

Yes an online version of the workshop is available.

You will benefit most from the online workshop if you:

  • allocate the time to do the online modules
  • complete some of the online quizzes
  • submit your work to the online literacy tutor if you want feedback

I would like to attend online, but would prefer to have the guidance of a tutor?

You can register for the program of online sessions via Zoom. Each session is led by an experienced academic literacy tutor.

I have to drop my child/children at school and pick them up; can I still attend a shorter day?

Yes, but you should tell your tutor so they can give you any information you might miss.

What if I can't attend every day?

You should talk to your tutor and let them know about your absences so they can give you any information you might miss.

The orientation and planning sessions for my course are on during the Academic Literacy Workshop; what should I do?

It is important that you attend any planning sessions related to your studies. You can take time out during the Academic Literacy Workshop to attend.

What do I need to bring to an on-campus workshop?

You should bring a pen and some paper. A list of what you need to bring and campus & room details will be sent to your student email account along with the confirmation of your registration.

I'm having trouble registering for an Academic Literacy Workshop; what do I do?

Check that you have entered all the information correctly and completed all required fields on the Registration Page. If it still isn't working, email literacy@westernsydney.edu.au

I registered for a workshop, but I have not received any information.

All information will be sent to your student email account, so please check it. It may take a few days after registering before you receive confirmation details. If you still haven’t heard from us, please email literacy@westernsydney.edu.au

I am interested in a bridging program for mathematics or statistics; are any on offer?
