The Board of Trustees met on Wednesday 5 December 2018 in the Boardroom, Building EB, Parramatta South campus.  A summary of matters discussed in the open session is provided below.

The minutes of the previous Board meeting held on 10 October 2018 were confirmed.

Main items considered by the Board:

Chancellor’s Report

The Chancellor advised the Board about a number of issues, including his attendance as a speaker at the What Should Universities Be? Symposium and the International Conference on Human Rights Education. The 2019 forward item schedule was also noted.

Vice-Chancellor’s Report

The Vice-Chancellor provided an update to Board members on success in the Australian Research Council Grants, Global Rankings, an update on student load. The Board were also provided an update on the International College, the recent Professoriate Dinner where nine staff were awarded the title of Distinguished Professor, as well as update on the True Rewards admissions program, recent Dean appointments and staff achievements.

Western Sydney University Structures Progress Report and Concept Proposals November 2018

Professor Bell spoke to this item and advised the Board that the proposed new academic structure for the university address the imperatives for change outlined in her previous White Paper, including the identified recommended adjustment in the number of Schools.  These changes are a necessary step toward the overarching goal of designing the most appropriate structure for a rapidly maturing University to meet its future needs.

Academic Senate Update

The Chair of Academic Senate spoke to a number of matters, include the Academic Senate Review.

As this was her last meeting, the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor thanked Deputy Chancellor Genevieve Gregor for her eleven and a half years of service to the University.
