Biography

Peter Bansel is Associate Dean, Higher Degree Research, a lecturer in Sociology, and a member of Sexualities and Genders Research in the School of Social Sciences at Western Sydney University. His interdisciplinary research is characterised by three broad interests: neoliberalism, Higher Education and policy analysis; biography, narrative and experiences of difference and diversity, and; identity, digital life, social worlds and wellbeing, with a specific focus on young people. His work on Higher Education and neoliberalism analyses and critiques the emergence of the enterprise university, the marketisation of education in a global knowledge economy, and the impacts of managerialist audit cultures on academic work and the lives of academic workers. His work on biography is particularly interested in the ways in which institutional practices produce specific identities through: the materialisation of the ambitions of government as the ambitions and desires of the individual, and; the historical, political and social production of multiple and variable formations of sexualities and genders. His work on digital life and social worlds is concerned with the relationships between technology and identity, and between material objects, practices and language in forming and transforming lived experience, especially as related to questions of individual and collective wellbeing.
