Biography

Paul Rooney is a lecture within postgraduate programs in Pedagogies in Practice and Secondary Methods in Humanities and Social Sciences within the Master of Teaching Progam: Secondary. He is the Secondary Methods Coordinator and has written book chapters on "Moving from Curriculum to Pedagogy: for science teacher education and Literacy within the Social Sciences and Humanities. Paul has an extensive background in educational leadership including the position of CEO/Principal of Broughton Anglican College (Mengangle, NSW). He has been an Assistant Principal, TOK teacher, TOK Coordinator and Extension Essay Supervisor at St Paul’s Grammar School –an IB World School in Sydney; been an executive member for Heads of Independent Co-educational Schools; the academic committee of the Association of Heads of Independent Schools NSW; regional president and committee member on the NSW branch of the Australian College of Educators; member of the Higher degree and Research committee for the School of Education, UWS; and committee member of the NSW Institute of Educational Research.

Paul's PhD (2010- 2014) concerned Cultural Assets: a model for school effectiveness in the Anglican tradition and reflects his professional and personal passion for high quality educational institutions through teacher engagement within education. Paul co-researched on "specialised scientifics practices in unversity education" with Dr Robyn Gregson (2012); was part of the research team on IB Programme: Theory of Knowledge (TOK): Exploring learning outcomes, benefits, and perceptions" with Assoc Prof David Cole; Assoc Prof Susanne Gannon and Dr Jackie Ullman (2012-2014) and co-researched on "From methods training to classroom practice: The professional transference of skills by students into their professional experience within the Key Learning Area: Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE)" with Dr C-B Lee and Dr N-K Koh (Singapore) (2014). All have resulted in peer reviewed publications. 

Since 2013 Paul has produced a range of accreditation courses for teacher professional development involving the Australian Curriculum and its implementation within faith-based schools. These course cover proficient, accomplished and lead professional development and have focussed on the implementation of secular curriculum within faith-based settings. Currently, Paul is a keynote speaker for the HDR Student conference for the School of Education UWS (September 2014); presenting for the NSW Institute of Educational Research & Professional Teachers Council of NSW on proficient teachers developing a literature review for publication of their practice within professional journals (October, 2014); and At the Australian Association.
