A new exhibition opening at the UWS Art Gallery on Saturday 9 November brings to life configurations of the female human body and nature through sculpture.

‘Configurations’ by Clara Hali is a collection of sculptures focused on the abstraction of movement and gesture made by the female body, reminding the audience of form, balance and gravity, but also the formations of the surrounding landscape.

Clara’s yoga asana body series in the upper level of the gallery is a tribute to her mother and encapsulates that both the physical and spiritual elements of yoga.

“One of the aims of yoga is to find balance in even the most difficult situations,” says Clara.

“Life, for most of us, is about finding balance, physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually.”

Clara’s body of work in the bottom level of the gallery reflects an expression of the human condition through the metaphor of landforms. The Blue Mountains’ precarious nature has influenced the body of work, intriguing Clara with its ability to reflect one’s inner landscape.

“Rock walls can have huge crevasses and cracks, bounders can be stacked on top of each other and somehow nature holds them together,” says Clara.

“The human experience is such that at times we can feel like we are falling apart and yet have a great capacity to function and seemingly hold it together.”

‘Configurations’ will open on Saturday 9 November at 2.00pm and will run until Friday 20 December.
