Community Engagement

We engage broadly with the public by offering lectures open to the public, through our participation in the media and community organisations, and our consulting with local, regional, state, and national agencies.

Several of our historians give lectures to community groups, while others are involved in local history networks and professional bodies.  Associate Professor Carol Liston is the editor of the Royal Australian Historical Society's journal as well as being on the committee of the Professional Historians' Association, as is Kate Matthew, one of our Higher Degree Research Students. Associate Professor Liston is also a regular speaker at local history groups and was involved in the Penrith City History Conference in 2013. Kate Matthew and Dr Cath Bishop both gave talks at the Sydney Mechanics School of Arts in 2012 and 2013. Dr David Burchell is a regular media commentator on political events while Pamela James works with the NSW police to help solve art crimes.

The public are warmly invited to attend the annual Europe Lecture along with the Australian Studies Research Network lectures.
