Health Sciences at Western

Your studies will help you develop skills in managing people, resources, systems, and processes within health services to meet the changing needs of communities, clinicians, governments, and organisations. The goal of the program is to develop decision-ready practitioners who can impact positively on health service issues and systems. Western Sydney University is Australia’s premier health sciences education institution. Our Health Science graduates will be exposed to academic and industry leaders who share their experience and knowledge to provide insights into the contemporary health service management, digital health, and workplace safety environments. You can choose from the following majors:

This major is designed for health practitioners who require skills in contemporary management and their application in the health care setting. Particular emphasis is placed on critical and analytic skills in health service governance, financing, quality and safety, and planning and evaluation, thus providing graduates with the ability to respond effectively to changes as they arise. Students in this major can further focus their studies in areas relevant to health service managers, such as project management, aged care management, human resource management and research and development.

This specialisation focuses on the practice of workplace health within national and international frameworks. It explores issues such as the physical, social and mental impact of the occupational environment on health. Strategies for the management of workplace health are examined, together with methods of monitoring and evaluating occupational health programs. Students have the opportunity to develop a safety systems program concentrating on hazard identification, risk assessment and devising control measures incorporating safety management principles. Students in this specialisation can further focus their studies in project management and research and evaluation.

Increasing the sustainable production of food for a growing population, in an unpredictable and increasingly harsh environment, is a global priority. Agricultural systems that meet these social and environmental goals of sustainable development must be developed to ensure healthy lives. This Postgraduate major is designed for science graduates interested in agricultural careers in technological innovation, research and development, agricultural policy and senior management. It is expected that upon completion of the program students will have the cognitive, technical and critical thinking skills to analyse issues and articulate appropriate solutions in the ever-evolving field of agricultural science. A capstone subject involving either a research or professional industry project will allow students to integrate their knowledge and skills developed throughout the program.

The tuition fees quoted above are the fees for the normal full-time study load of the program (80 credit points) per annum. International students will be subject to a variable fee regime; i.e. enrolled students will be required to pay fees during their program based on the approved fee for each calendar year. Fee changes (if any) will occur at 1 January each calendar year. Students who extend their program past the normal finish date of the program will be required to pay additional fees based on the prevailing fee level. Western Sydney University is a multi-campus institution. The University reserves the right to alter the location of its programs between campuses and other locations as necessary. Students should be aware of the possibility of change of location for the whole or part of programs for which they enrol and should plan for the need to travel between Western Sydney campuses.
