Master of Teaching Direct Entry English

This program is designed to develop your English language skills to a level that will enable you to express your ideas effectively and communicate confidently, to the required standard of a professional teacher.

Incorporating practice in academic study and language skills necessary to teach within the Australian school sector, students who successfully complete this program will gain direct entry to the Western Sydney University Master of Teaching.

Duration: 12 weeks and includes 20 hours of face-to-face classroom time per week, usually 5 days, Monday to Friday.

Entry Requirements

Students will need to have achieved one of the following for entry into the program:

  • IELTS (Academic) 7.0 (minimum 6.0 in all areas)
  • TOEFL PBT 600/ IBT 100
  • The College EAP 5 (65% or above)
  • Pearson (Academic) 68 with no communication skills less than 50
  • The College English Entrance Test 85%+

Assessment

The Master of Teaching Direct Entry English Program includes assessment tasks, as well as mid-term and final tests in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Exit Articulation

To complete the program, you will need to achieve a 60% pass overall, with a pass result in each assessment item.

Focus on Skills

Using knowledge of text structure, grammar and vocabulary, you will gain an understanding of a variety of written texts, and critically evaluate complex written information.

Build on your understanding of texts by planning, drafting and editing persuasive analytical essays, case studies, reports, reflective journals and lesson plans.

Utilising your knowledge of a range of texts, you'll learn to make meaning from conversations and discussions, along with a variety of spoken academic texts and lectures.

Participate in informal conversations, formal discussions and structured role plays in the classroom, as well as plan and produce an academic oral presentation and a 10-minute class lesson.

An understanding of the role of a teacher, you'll engage in activities designed to enhance your workplace language skills.

An awareness of the differences in learning styles, you'll practise and apply efficient and effective study skills.
