This program is designed for students with English as a second language who are looking to develop their language skills to communicate confidently, express ideas effectively and gain a thorough understanding of the level of language proficiency required to attend an Australian university.
Duration: Each of the five English Academic Programs (EAPs) are taught over a 10-week period, and include 20-hours of face-to-face classroom time per week.

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) 1 to 5
The program is divided into five modules, EAP 1 to EAP 5, and caters to students of all English language proficiencies.
Each module includes mid-term and final tests in reading, writing and listening, as well as assessment tasks throughout the program that link specifically to each module. Assessment tasks include writing reports and essays, presenting seminars, responding to academic articles and lectures, and engaging in spoken dialogues. Study skills are also an integral part of the program and are designed to familiarise students with academic study conventions, and improve independent learning.
This program bridges the gap between general English and Academic skills in reading, listening, speaking and writing. During the program, you'll be concentrating on basic grammar and sentence structure, gradually moving toward more complex texts.
Entry – one of the following results is required for entry to EAP 1:
- IELTS (Academic) 3.5+
- TOEFL PBT 400/IBT 32
- Pearson (Academic) 25
- The College English Entrance Test 25%+
This module provides students with a foundation in academic writing, reading, listening and speaking skills through general program work, oral presentations, reports and assessments.
Entry – one of the following results is required for entry to EAP 2:
- IELTS (Academic) 4.5+
- TOEFL PBT 475/IBT 45
- Pearson (Academic) 30
- The College English Entrance Test 40%+
This level consolidates your understanding of a range of academic texts and builds on the skills developed in EAP 2. If you pass, you can go straight into The College's University Foundation Studies program, except into the Health Science/Nursing stream.
Entry – one of the following results is required for entry to EAP 3:
- IELTS (Academic) 5.0+ (with a 5.0 in writing)
- TOEFL PBT 500/IBT 55 (16 in writing)
- Pearson (Academic) 36
- The College English Entrance Test 50%+
This module extends your proficiency in academic English, with the opportunity to strengthen your language and critical literacy skills in preparation for tertiary study. If you pass, you can go straight into The College's University Foundation Studies (UFS) program, including the Health Science/Nursing stream of the UFS, or into a College Diploma Program.
Entry – one of the following results is required for entry to EAP 4:
- IELTS (Academic) 5.5+ (with a 5.0 in writing)
- TOEFL PBT 520/IBT 62 (17 in writing)
- Pearson (Academic) 42 with no communicative skill score less than 36
- The College English Entrance Test 60%+
This level allows you to hone your language skills in academic writing, reading, listening and speaking to a high level, and is excellent preparation for the university environment. Students who successfully complete EAP 5 do not need to take any further English language tests to gain entry to their study at Western Sydney University.
Entry – one of the following results is required for entry to EAP 5:
- IELTS (Academic) 6.0+ (with a 5.0 in any area)
- TOEFL PBT 540/ IBT 73 (19 in writing)
- Pearson (Academic) 50 with no communicative skill score less than 42
- The College English Entrance Test 70%+
