Friends of the Female Orphan School

Do you have a passion for history, heritage or the arts? Would you like to give something back to the community? Would you like to help share this heritage treasure and its history with the public?

The Whitlam Institute and Western Sydney University envisage the Female Orphan School building as a truly democratic space for the whole community to enjoy. We want to share the building's rich heritage and the work of the Whitlam Institute, and to do this we are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to get involved with the Friends of the Female Orphan School and Whitlam Institute program, assisting with the building's activities throughout the year.

What do volunteers do?

Our volunteers are essential in sharing this heritage treasure with the public. Volunteers provide information to visitors and answer their questions about the building and its history, act as Gallery Attendants monitoring exhibition spaces and assist with promotion activities. All our volunteers receive training.

Who are we seeking?

We are seeking personable and welcoming volunteers with a passion for the arts, heritage or Australian history, and who are enthusiastic about engaging with the public.  We welcome volunteers who are motivated, committed, and have an interest in bringing one of Australia's most historically significant buildings back to life. Availability on Wednesdays or Thursdays is essential.
