Adding, dropping and changing subjects

You can add, drop or change subjects in which you are registered in My Student Records (MySR).(opens in a new window)

In MySR, go into the 'Registrations' section, then select the 'Register for Subjects' step to access your existing subjects.

For more details about how to change your subject selection, see the How to enrol web page.

You can alter your registration in units within a term up until the census date for that term.

Adding and changing subjects

You can add subjects to your record using MySR until midnight on the Friday of the second week of term for most terms. After this date you need to complete a Rule Waiver Form to add a subject.

Some terms this deadline is midnight on the Friday of the first week of term, please check the Important Dates page

When adding subjects consider program and subject rules (look up your course and units in the Western Sydney University Handbook to check for rules), and check the timetable to make sure your subjects do not have lectures or tutorials that clash with each other.

Dropping subjects

Before the census date

You can use MySR to drop a subject up until midnight on the census date. If you are an International student, you must remain registered in a full-time study load.

If you drop a subject or withdraw from your program before the census date, you won't get a grade for that subject and you won't be liable for any related tuition fees or student contribution charges.

Withdrawing after the census date

If you withdraw from a subject after the census date, you will still be charged fees for the subject/s and may also receive an academic penalty. The subjects withdrawn after census will also count as unsuccessfully completed in the Low completion rate calculation.

Following the census date, you can withdraw from a subject through MySR and avoid an academic penalty up to three weeks after census, depending on the term. The last date to withdraw without academic penalty for each term is published in our Important Dates. You will still be charged fees for the subject/s withdrawn after the census date.

To withdraw from a subject or program after the last date to withdraw without academic penalty, you can complete the Discontinuation or Break from Studies Application through WesterNow

When you withdraw from a subject after the last date to withdraw without academic penalty, you will receive an 'E' grade (Fail Discontinued) on your academic record and you will still be charged fees for the subject/s.

If you are withdrawing after the census date due to extenuating circumstances, you can apply to Withdrawal without academic/financial penalty (W Grade) form through WesternNow.  Successful subjects will not count in the Low completion rate calculation.

The last date to submit the Discontinuation or Break from Studies Application to discontinue after census is the Friday that is two weeks before the published start date of the exams for the term.
